Each year, the Yocum Institute for Arts Education is pleased to host Summer Arts Connection, a summer-long program that features fun, innovative, and creative camps for ages 2 – 15. Whether it’s “Stealthy Spaghetti and Fruit Ninjas,” “Sheep in a Jeep,” or “Urban Myths and Legends” there is something new for campers to learn and create in one- to three-week, half- or full-day camps.
During Summer Arts Connection, acting, dancing, visual art, and music all combine under a weekly theme built to stretch your child’s imagination. Each theme will encourage your child to think actively and engage with the world and their peers in a new way.
Children’s favorite books inspire art projects, music, movement, and theater games. Our youngest campers are given the opportunity to create in a nurturing and caring environment. Each session of this drop-off program is led by Miss Tammy who supervises playtime on the playground, leads innovative art projects, and inspires dramatic play. She is supported by an aide and teaching artists, who join her throughout the week to sing songs, play instruments, and express themselves through creative movement. This professional staff combines the art forms to promote socialization, early literacy skills, and a lot of fun.
Camps run from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM. Snack is provided.
Multi-Arts (Ages 3 – 10)
Weekly themes use the arts as a platform for exploration and innovation, to grow critical thinking skills, and to discover how powerful the imaginative voice can be. Camps are led by professional teaching artists who are chosen for their knowledge of their art form and their great skill as teachers. We also have special guest teachers throughout the summer that bring expertise in other fields that are not typically thought of as connecting to the arts. Campers are assigned into groups by age and led throughout the session by an aide. Parents and friends are invited on Fridays for an end of camp sharing.
Camps run from 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM (AM Session) and 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM (PM Session). Pack a lunch and combine the two sessions for a full day.
Performance and Teen Camps (Ages 10 – 15)
Older campers work with professional directors, actors, dancers, and artists to develop performance, writing, and/or artistic skills. These camps help to build confidence, collaborat
ion, and creativity while working in a safe and encouraging environment. Performance and Teen Camps range in length (1 – 3 weeks) and many result in performances being held at the Miller Center for the Arts and the Yocum Institute. All camps are led by talented teaching artists and creative professionals who work in education and their chosen discipline.
Camps can either be full (9:00 AM – 4:30 PM) or half day (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM/1:00 PM – 4:30 PM), depending on the theme. Snacks and lunch is not provided.
