On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, the Yocum Institute for Arts Education broke ground on a new building, located at 3000 Penn Avenue in Spring Township.
The new, 20,000 square foot building, originally a knitting mill and warehouse, was purchased in June at $750,000 and will undergo a $4.3 million renovation. The Yocum Institute currently has 60% of the funds raised, but is looking to raise the remainder before the opening of the building in May 2018.
The new site will continue the revitalization of the Penn Avenue corridor and will be ADA compliant, taking into account various activity abilities and participation restrictions. It will also feature expanded offerings for seniors, 90+ parking spaces, an educational theater space, expanded visual arts and dance studios, an emerging artist gallery, an up-to-date music wing, a secure arts-based kindergarten and preschool, and accessibility to a growing part of the county.
We cannot wait to see what the Yocum Institute of Tomorrow will be.
